Jaakko Honko Lectures – Matti Alahuhta talks about leadership

The Public Lecture named after Chancellor Jaakko Honko is held in the Hall of the School of Business. The event is in Finnish.

The lecture named after Chancellor Jaakko Honko is held on 8 April in collaboration with the School of Business, Yrjö Jahnsson Foundation and the HSE Foundation. The lecture is given by Matti Alahuhta, Doctor of Science (Technology), who talks about leadership.

As well as the lecture, Jaakko Honko medals are also presented to people who have had a significant impact on business life or on the promotion of scientific research in the areas of commerce and economics.

Jaakko Honko

Jaakko Honko (1922-2006) was a professor at the Helsinki School of Economics, the predecessor of Aalto University School of Business, from 1960 and was later rector and chancellor 1969–1989. He did significant work in the development of economics and business practices.

Professor Honko also gained distinction internationally and was a visiting professor at several top universities. He was awarded five honorary doctorates in Finland, Sweden, Germany and Russia. He was also a member of numerous Academies of Science in Europe and the USA.

Professor Honko was also honorary chairman of the Yrjö Jahnsson Foundation.

Matti Alahuhta

Matti Alahuhta, D.Sc. (Tech), managed major global businesses with Nokia and Kone for three decades. He has been involved in building up Aalto University as chairman of the board since the university was established. He currently holds several official positions in the public sector and in business. One of his latest roles is as the chairman of DevCo Partners, which aims to support the growth of medium sized Finnish companies.

Jaakko Honko Professorship

On January 1, 2015 Aalto University established the Jaakko Honko Professorship in recognition of the support of the Foundation for Economic Education in promoting the scientific research work of the School of Business. Professor Jaakko Honko played a central role in the operation of the Foundation for Economic Education. The Professorship is to honour Professor Honko’s influential contribution to the building of Finnish society and to the development of economic thinking.

Professor Teemu Malmi has been appointed to theJaakko Honko Professorship established by the School of Business.
